Motto yang diembannya adalah “seri kisah-kisah Islami”, tapi hampir semua cerpennya bercerita tentang perempuan yang awalnya tidak berjilbab, lalu mendapat hidayah kemudian berjilbab. Atau tentang perempuan yang memutuskan untuk berjilbab, lalu ditentang oleh keluarganya. Ia bahkan diusir dan tidak diakui lagi sebagai anak, atau tidak diperbolehkan masuk sekolah jika masih nekat mengenakan jilbab. Saya pikir, apakah Islam itu hanya seputar jilbab? Tentu tidak, bukan? Tapi motto “seri kisah-kisah Islami” seolah-olah membenarkan asumsi bahwa Islam memang hanya seputar jilbab. Saya bahkan pernah kepikiran untuk mengusulkan pada redaktur majalah ini, agar mottonya diubah saja menjadi “seri kisah-kisah jilbab”. Berita baiknya, Annida kemudian mengganti motto tersebut dengan sesuatu yang lebih relevan. Kini, Annida tampil lebih “cair”, tidak lagi sekaku dulu. Cerpen-cerpen yang dimuat pun lebih universal, humanis, tapi tetap mengusung nilai-nilai Islami. Kini, hampir tak ada lagi cerpen bertema jilbab yang dimuat di Annida. * * * Beberapa waktu lalu, seorang teman mengirimi saya cerpen dan meminta saya untuk mengkritiknya. Hm… lagi-lagi ceritanya mengenai jilbab! Saya berkata bahwa cerita seperti itu sudah terlalu sering ditulis, dan sebaiknya ia menulis tema yang lain. “Bahkan majalah Annida pun tidak mau lagi memuat cerita seperti itu,” ujar saya. Di luar dugaan, si teman ini protes. “Lho, bukannya masalah jilbab itu selalu aktual? Hingga hari ini masih banyak muslimah yang enggan berjilbab. Jadi cerpen saya sama sekali tidak basi!” Kalau dipikir-pikir, si teman ini benar juga. Jilbab adalah sebuah tema yang tak pernah basi selama masih banyak muslimah yang masih enggan menutup aurat. Tapi ketika setiap penulis membuat cerita yang isinya begitu-begitu saja, tentu pembaca akan bosan juga, kan? Lagipula, seperti yang saya tulis di atas, apakah Islam itu hanya seputar jilbab? Apakah cerita tentang kasih sayang ibu terhadap anaknya bukan cerita Islami? Apakah cerita tentang perjuangan seorang pemuda untuk membela kaum yang tertindas bukan cerita Islami? Apakah cerita tentang seorang pegawai negeri yang berjuang melawan korupsi bukan cerita Islami? Dalam konteks inilah, banjirnya cerita-cerita bertema jilbab menjadi sesuatu yang memprihatinkan. Terlebih jika cerita-cerita tersebut masih berisi kisah yang begitu-begitu saja, bahkan disampaikan dengan gaya yang amat standar. * * * Ya, saya paham. Hampir semua penulis yang mengangkat tema jilbab dalam cerita-cerita mereka, punya semangat dakwah yang tinggi. Mereka ingin agar setiap muslimah menutup aurat. Dalam konteks ini, kita tentu harus menghargai semangat mereka. Bahkan, ini sebenarnya sesuatu yang sangat baik. Namun, izinkanlah saya menguraikan enam hal yang menurut saya perlu dicermati oleh para penulis muslim yang masih setia berkutat pada cerita-cerita bertema penutup aurat. Pertama: Islam bukan hanya menyangkut jilbab. Ya, saya yakin kamu sangat menyadari hal ini. Tapi jika kamu sadar, kenapa kamu masih juga mengidentikkan cerita Islami dengan jilbab? Mungkin kamu sudah bosan mendengar ucapan “Islam adalah agama yang universal”. Tapi sampai sejauh mana kamu mengimplementasikan hal ini pada karya-karya kamu? Jika cerita buatan kamu masih berkutat seputar jilbab, aktivis rohis, orang jahat yang bertaubat, maka mungkin universalisme Islam belum benar-benar meresap di dalam hati kamu. Cobalah sesekali menulis cerita tentang pegawai negeri (tak usah sebutkan apa agamanya) yang berjuang melawan budaya suap dan korupsi di lingkungan kerjanya. Atau, cerita tentang seorang pemuda (juga tak usah sebutkan apa agamanya) yang giat membela rakyat yang tertindas. Apakah menurut kamu cerita-cerita seperti ini tidak islami? Kedua: Jilbab bukanlah solusi segalanya. Saya jadi ingat pada cerita-cerita picisan ala penulis sekuler. Ada begitu banyak cerita yang berkisah tentang orang pacaran yang ditentang habis-habisan oleh orang tua dan lingkungan mereka. Bahkan banyak orang yang berusaha memisahkan mereka. Tapi mereka tetap tegar, tetap saling mencintai dan berusaha agar dapat bersatu dalam ikatan pernikahan. Di akhir cerita, mereka berhasil menikah dan hidup bahagia selamanya. Cerita seperti ini terus diulang-ulang, bahkan hingga hari ini. Coba simak, banyak sekali sinetron yang episode terakhirnya berisi adegan pernikahan si tokoh utama. Cerita-cerita seperti ini seolah-olah mengisyaratkan bahwa pernikahan adalah akhir dari semua masalah dan awal dari semua kebahagiaan. Padahal benarkah demikian? Saya membayangkan jika seorang pria kaya menikah dengan perempuan miskin (atau sebaliknya). Ya, mungkin mereka hidup bahagia. Tapi bagaimana cara si istri beradaptasi dengan keluarga suaminya yang kaya raya? Bagaimana cara si suami memperlakukan keluarga istrinya yang sangat miskin? Bagaimana proses adaptasi dua manusia yang berasal dari golongan yang jauh berbeda? Apakah masalah-masalah seperti ini ikut dibahas oleh cerita-cerita picisan yang selalu berakhir dengan pernikahan yang bahagia tersebut? Sama sekali tidak! Potensi masalah-masalah seperti ini benar-benar dinafikan, dan pembaca/penonton terus dibuai oleh mimpi indah bahwa setelah tokoh utama menikah, maka semua masalah otomatis berakhir dan kebahagiaan abadi telah menunggu di depan sana. Saya melihat bahwa cerita-cerita Islami bertema jilbab pun punya kencenderungan yang lebih kurang sama. Cerita-cerita tentang perempuan yang bertaubat lalu mengenakan jilbab, dan cerita-cerita sejenis lainnya, seolah-olah mengisyaratkan bahwa “mengenakan jilbab” adalah akhir dari sebuah tujuan mulia. Seolah-olah “mengenakan jilbab” merupakan akhir dari semua masalah dan awal dari kebagiaan yang abadi. Seolah-olah kondisi ini merupakan garis finish dari perjuangan dakwah yang berliku-liku. Benarkah demikian? Poin ketiga di bawah ini akan memberikan uraian yang lebih detil. Ketiga: Saatnya kita mengajukan sebuah pertanyaan yang sangat konseptual: Apa sebenarnya tujuan utama seorang penulis cerita Islami? Apakah: (1) mengajak semua muslimah menutup aurat, atau (2) meyakinkan masyarakat akan kebenaran ajaran Islam, meyakinkan mereka bahwa Islam adalah solusi paling jitu untuk mengatasi masalah-masalah kehidupan? Walau tidak terlalu tepat, analogi permainan biliar mungkin bisa memberikan gambaran yang lebih jelas. Pada permainan ini, kita memukul bola A dengan harapan ia akan menyentuh bola B, lalu bola B menggelinding dan masuk ke dalam lubang. Stik biliar adalah strategi dakwah, jilbab serta objek dakwah lainnya adalah bola A dan bola B, sedangkan si lubang adalah kebenaran ajaran Islam. Jika kita memukul bola A dengan harapan ia akan masuk ke dalam lubang, maka bola A akan melesat ke suatu tempat yang jauh dari lubang tersebut. Seorang pemain biliar yang cerdas akan mengarahkan bola A ke bola B, sebab ia yakin bola B menempati posisi yang sangat strategis sehingga ia dapat mencapai lubang dengan tepat. Intinya, seorang penulis muslim harus tahu apa sebenarnya tujuan akhir dari perjuangan dakwah lewat tulisan. Jika kita hanya berkutat pada bola A, bisa-bisa nanti banyak perempuan yang berjilbab tapi jiwa mereka masih kering akan nilai-nilai Islam. Atau mereka berjilbab tapi niatnya bukan lillahi ta’ala. Berbeda halnya jika kita memfokuskan diri pada tujuan akhir yang sebenarnya. Bila nilai-nilai Islam telah terpatri kuat di hati seorang muslimah, maka otomatis tanpa disuruh-suruh pun, dia akan segera mengenakan jilbab. Mustahil rasanya jika ada orang yang telah yakin dan sadar akan kebenaran nilai-nilai Islam, tapi dia masih enggan menutup aurat. Dengan analisis di atas, saya kira saatnya kita mengubah strategi dakwah dalam aktivitas menulis. Menghimbau para muslimah agar berjilbab memang baik. Tapi ada begitu banyak strategi yang dapat kita pilih. Berkutat hanya pada satu strategi, padahal strategi itu belum tentu jitu, bisa-bisa justru membuat tujuan dakwah kita tidak tercapai. Keempat: Mari belajar dari media massa. Saya pernah menulis artikel tentang peranan media dalam membentuk citra atau opini publik. Islam yang kini dicitrakan sebagai agama teroris, sebenarnya tidak terlepas dari pengaruh kuat media massa. Berita-berita tentang sosok teroris beragama Islam terus dimunculkan, sehingga lambat laun alam bawah sadar kita mengatakan bahwa Islam memang agama yang berbahaya. Manusia zaman sekarang hobi menonton film, sinetron, juga membaca cerita-cerita fiksi seperti novel dan cerpen. Sejujurnya, karya-karya fiksi ini pun bisa menjadi lahan subur bagi berkembangnya upaya pencitraan terhadap hal-hal tertentu. Bila tidak percaya, coba simak bagaimana karya-karya fiksi telah berhasil membentuk citra yang sangat khas terhadap karakter-karakter berikut ini. * Kutu buku = kuper, penampilan kuno, pakai kacamata tebal. * Cewek gendut = agresif terhadap cowok, doyan ngemil, tak tahu diri. * Cowok idola = ganteng, putih, pintar main basket, gaul abis. * Cewek idola = cantik, sederhana, baik hati, disukai semua pria, punya prinsip hidup yang teguh, tapi hidupnya selalu malang. * Polisi India = suka bersekongkol dengan penjahat. * Polisi Indonesia = kaku seperti robot, dan selalu datang terlambat. * Dukun = hobi tertawa terbahak-bahak “HA.. HA.. HA…” dengan suara keras dan sikap yang sombong. Pencitraan punya kekuatan yang sangat dahsyat. Sesuatu yang sebenarnya A bisa dipercaya sebagai B, padahal B sama sekali berbeda dengan A. Simaklah contoh-contoh di atas. Benarkah semua perempuan gendut itu agresif terhadap cowok dan doyan ngemil? Kam pasti tahu itu keliru. Tapi tanpa sadar, ketika menulis cerpen, kamu pun menampilkan karakter tokoh yang seperti itu (sejujurnya saya juga pernah!), karena citra seperti itu sudah tertanam kuat di alam bawah sadar kamu! Pencitraan itu sama seperti pisau. Ia bisa digunakan untuk kebaikan maupun kejahatan. Dalam konteks kebaikan, tentu pencitraan bisa dimanfaatkan sebagai strategi dakwah. Selama ini, perempuan berjilbab di dalam sinetron religius selalu diidentikkan sebagai wanita berhati mulia namun tak berdaya dan selalu berdoa sambil menangis tersedu-sedu. Ini adalah sebuah pencitraan juga sebenarnya. Bagi kamu para penulis muslim yang punya semangat dakwah yang tinggi, kenapa tidak mencoba mengubah citra ini? Dalam setiap cerita yang kamu tulis, tampilkanlah sosok perempuan berjilbab yang baik hati, supel dalam bergaul, mandiri, tegar alias tidak cengeng, ulet bekerja, gampang mendapatkan jodoh, karirnya cemerlang, hidupnya sangat modern tapi tetap teguh pada nilai-nilai Islam. Ya, memang terlalu aneh juga jika sosok rekaan kamu terlalu ideal seperti itu. Tapi intinya, kamu bisa membangun citra muslimah berjilbab sebagai sosok perempuan yang patut dikagumi dan diteladani oleh siapa saja. Kamu tak perlu menulis pesan moral verbal sebagaimana yang banyak dilakukan selama ini. Kamu tak perlu menghimbau pembaca untuk menutup aurat dengan bahasa ceramah yang bertele-tele. Tapi cukup lakukan sebuah pencitraan lewat aliran cerita yang wajar dan natural. Jika semua penulis muslim melakukan strategi seperti ini, Insya Allah lambat laun citra perempuan berjilbab yang semula buruk, bisa berubah menjadi baik, keren dan bergengsi. Jika pandangan masyarakat sudah positif seperti ini, Insya Allah upaya untuk mengajak para muslimah agar mau menutup aurat pun semakin mudah. Kita tak perlu lagi melakukan himbauan dengan kalimat-kalimat verbal dan seperti ceramah pengajian. Kelima: Menempatkan segala sesuatu sesuai konteksnya adalah sikap yang bijaksana. Kenapa banyak cerita Islami pada tahun 1990-an yang berkisah tentang perjuangan para muslimah untuk mengenakan jilbab? Tak lain dan tak bukan karena pada masa itu jilbab merupakan jenis pakaian yang masih sangat langka. Bahkan, kebijakan pemerintah masih sangat tidak kondusif. Para jilbaber harus berjuang keras - bahkan mengorbankan banyak hal - agar mereka bebas mengenakan pakaian muslimah. Dalam situasi seperti itu, cerpen-cerpen ala Annida di tahun 1990-an mendapatkan relevansinya. Tak ada yang aneh, sebab kondisi riil masyarakat pada masa itu memang demikian. Kini, situasi sudah sangat jauh berbeda, khususnya di Indonesia. Perempuan berjilbab dapat kita temukan di mana-mana. Jilbab yang dulu dianggap sebagai pakaian kampungan dan aneh, kini telah naik derajatnya, menjadi salah satu jenis pakaian yang diterima dan dihargai oleh masyarakas luas. Dalam kondisi seperti saat ini, masihkah relevan jika kita tetap menulis cerita tentang perempuan yang bertaubat lalu mengenakan jilbab? Atau tentang perjuangan seorang muslimah agar bebas mengenakan jilbab? Helvy Tiana Rosa pernah menulis sebuah cerpen yang sangat fenomenal; Ketika Mas Gagah Pergi (KMGP). Cerpen ini pun bercerita tentang seorang gadis yang awalnya tidak berjilbab, namun kemudian ia mendapat hidayah lalu berjilbab. Di era ketika cerpen ini dipublikasikan, isi ceritanya bisa dibilang mewakili kondisi masyarakat Islam Indonesia ketika itu. Maka tak heran jika KMGP menjadi bacaan favorit di mana-mana, bahkan banyak perempuan yang langsung bertaubat dan menutup aurat setelah membacanya. Saya “beruntung” karena baru membaca cerpen ini di tahun 2004 lalu. Setelah membacanya, saya mengerutkan kening. Saya memang mengakui cerpen ini sangat bagus. Tapi saya heran, kenapa KMGP bisa meledak sedemikian rupa dan terkenal di mana-mana. Apa istimewanya? Seorang teman sesama penulis memberikan analisis yang menurut saya sangat pas. “Wajar banget jika kamu punya perasaan seperti itu. Sebab kamu membaca cerpen ini ketika kondisi masyarakat kita sudah sangat jauh berbeda.” Ya, saya setuju, dan keheranan saya pun berakhir.
